![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Leslie writes with conviction and authority, illuminating issues in psychology, social trends, and politics…. Filled with inspiring stories, case studies, and practical advice, Curious will change the way you think about your own mental life, and that of those around you. Curiosity is a mental muscle that atrophies without regular exercise and a habit that parents, schools, and workplaces need to nurture. In Curious, Ian Leslie makes a passionate case for the cultivation of our "desire to know." Drawing on fascinating research from psychology, economics, education, and business, Leslie looks at what feeds curiosity and what starves it, and finds surprising answers. But at the very moment when the rewards of curiosity have never been higher, it is misunderstood and undervalued, and increasingly monopolized by the cognitive elite. Those who do so tend to be smarter, more creative, and more successful. But only some retain the habits of exploring, learning, and discovering as they grow older. In Curious, Ian Leslie makes a passionate case for the cultivation of our 'desire to know. A fun yet provocative look at the importance of staying curious in an increasingly indifferent world Everyone is born curious. ![]() ![]() When I realized I needed to call it a night, this book haunted my dreams. I stayed up far later than I should have last night tearing through these pages. ![]() ![]() When I tell you that I DEVOURED this book, it's an understatement. This book was nothing short of PHENOMENAL and I'm honest to God astonished over what I've just read. I am sitting here in awe, in stunned silence, in utter disbelief as I reflect back on the MASTERPIECE that is Hook Shot. I am sitting here with absolutely no idea how to even BEGIN to put thoughts down about what I just experienced on these pages. I believe there were a lot of unhappy people in those days and that is not counting the blacks, Jews and other minorities. It was harder to get divorced in those days, and I believe there were a lot of unhappy marriages. A male dominated society, where the best most women could do was marry a successful man. This book shows a little bit about what life was like in the 50's and early 60's. Some people always talk about the past like it was so much better then today. IT WAS NICE TO BE 7FT TALL This book also hits one of my pet peeves. ![]() I think all of us, can see a little of ourselves in Norman Bates. ![]() He admitted to me once that occasionally, he draws the curtains, stays in his pajamas and does not leave the house for maybe a week. I have a friend who is extremely active in society, an extrovert. Norman Bates is scared of people and all he wants in life is to be warm, cozy and safe. YOU HAVEN'T THE GUMPTION I think all of us have times in our lives when we want to crawl in a nice warm hole and just hibernate. There are some interesting well developed characters in this book. It was entertaining and kept my attention all the way through. That does not change the fact that it is a well written book. EVERY NAIL SERVES A PURPOSE Scary wise this is not as good as most horror books of today. ![]() ![]() ![]() Andrea Camilleri’s Inspector Salvo Montalbano has garnered millions of fans worldwide with his sardonic, engaging take on Sicilian small-town life and his genius for deciphering the most enigmatic of crimes. ![]() ![]() Montalbano’s passion to solve this old crime takes him, heedless of personal danger, on a journey through the island’s past and into a family’s dark heart amid the horrors of World War II. This generation has it tough, without a doubt, but they're also painfully aware of the urgent need to take matters into their own hands. They live off their credit cards, may or may not have health insurance, and come up so far short at the end of the month that the idea of saving money is a joke. The goals of their parents' generation - buy a house, support a family, send kids to college, retire in style - seem absurdly, depressingly out of reach. ![]() ![]() They're called "Generation Debt" and "Generation Broke" by the media - people in their twenties and thirties who graduate college with a mountain of student loan debt and are stuck with one of the weakest job markets in recent history. The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke is financial expert Suze Orman's answer to a generation's cry for help. The New York Times bestselling financial guide aimed squarely at "Generation Debt"-and their parents-from the country's most trusted and dynamic source on money matters. ![]() ![]() ![]() I scoured church-hall jumble sales for battered NEL paperbacks with gold embossed lettering, titles that began with ‘The’, and lurid and squidgy artwork. Since the horror publishing bubble dramatically burst back in the mid-nineties, fans of horror as a literary genre have seen their corner of the local bookstore dwindle to (if they are lucky) a solitary stand largely stocked with Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and precious little else. Season two will find Pickett investigating a string of murders. Starring Michael Dorman, Vivienne Guynn, Chad Rook, and Aadila Dosani, the drama follows Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett (Dorman) as he watches over his territory.
